DeMao Nominated for Gaston College’s Economic and Workforce Development Instructor of the
DENVER, NC – Sherré DeMao, President and Chief Marketeer of SLD Unlimited Marketing/PR, Inc. of Denver was nominated for Gaston College’s Economic and Workforce Development Instructor of the Year for 2007 by Brad Rivers, Director of Gaston College’s Small Business Center.
“I nominated Sherré because of her willingness to teach marketing to our Small Business Center (SBC) clients for over 10 years. She has shown a sincere and continuing spirit of dedication to small business in both Gaston and Lincoln Counties,” said Brad Rivers, Director of Gaston College’s SBC. “In addition, her expansion of the marketing portion of the core SBC curriculum from one to three sessions has greatly enhanced the information that new and expanding companies need to be successful in their respective businesses. Sherré’s dedication and enthusiasm were also keys to my nominating her for this award.”
DeMao began her involvement with North Carolina’s Small Business Center Network when she became an on call counselor and instructor through Central Piedmont’s Small Business Center in 1994. The Small Business Centers of Gaston College, Rowan-Cabarrus and Catawba Valley Community College have also adopted DeMao’s small business marketing teachings over the last 13 years.
The Small Business Center Network is comprised of 58 Small Business Centers throughout North Carolina. It supports the development of new businesses and the growth of existing businesses by being a community-based provider of training, counseling, and resource information. The mission of the Small Business Center Network is to increase the success rate and the number of viable small business in North Carolina by providing high quality, readily accessible assistance to small business owners and their employees.
The Instructor of the Year was announced at the annual Economic and Workforce Development Instructor Orientation, which was held on July 31. Sherré congratulates this year’s winner of the Economic and Workforce Development Instructor of the Year, Thalia Ellis, an instructor in the Gaston College Criminal Justice Program.
Sherré DeMao is founder and Chief Marketeer of SLD Unlimited Marketing/PR, Inc., a full-service marketing firm. Since 1984, Sherré has been helping start-up, small to medium, entrepreneurial companies become smarter marketers through providing creative and innovative marketing guidance, solutions and services. Her marketing expertise has been sought as a resource to business writers and her firm’s designs have won awards including the Telly, ProAd, PICA, Addy and IABC Crown awards. The company won its first international award in 2006 for work done for an economic development client promoting one of its industrial parks.
Her business savvy has also been recognized with recognition as a woman business owner, entrepreneur and small business advocate including: 2007 50 Most Enterprising Women in the Country, Enterprising Women Magazine; 2007 Finalist for Queens University BusinessWoman of the Year; the Small Business Administration’s 2006 North Carolina and Southeast Women in Business Champion; 2006 Top 25 Women of Achievement by the Charlotte Business Journal; and a three-time finalist for the Charlotte Chamber’s Entrepreneur of the Year (2006, 2000, 1998). Sherré has been resourced by local and national media including MSN.com and CBS-affiliate WBTV for perspectives on entrepreneurial business.
